Day 38

I spent most of the morning in the bunk. St. Neptune kept a close eye on me until it got so hot and stuffy in the cabin that I could not bare it anymore. I felt much better after a swim. The day was up and down - at times the thirst was very severe - and at times it got better. I spent a lot of time talking about fruits with Goltis. Which are our favorites and if we had to choose - which one would it be right now? Mine was a juicy pineapple....with a big yellow peach a close second. All in all it was a close call - so many to choose from. A raw onion would also be quite welcome right now.

The day was long. In the evening we started joking about land and how far we still have to go. Vitali keeps on saying ten days....I would not be able to bear ten more days. I am as homesick as I have ever been. I checked all the medical parameters and Constantin's blood sugar is very low. He says that he is too weak to even go to the toilet. I hope he lasts the last two days - he is a skeleton. He also said that he felt a rapid decline over the last three days. Goltis is doing well except for fatigue. My blood glucose level was also dropping to below normal and my urine was strongly positive for ketones. I will start to drink water tomorrow as soon as we reach land and then start eating again when we celebrate their Christmas with the twelve dishes. Tonight's dinner of fried onions, carrots and rice made my mouth water. It is only a half a day to go to land. Once again - I cannot wait. I am so tired.

As I settled down to sleep Andriy gave me some of his music to listen to. It was a Russian church choir - I did not understand a word they sang, but it was beautiful.
